“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken and will He not make it good and fulfill it?” Num. 23:19
Deliverance is a topic we don’t hear about often on the radio, in the newspaper, or on TV. What is the meaning of deliverance? It’s the action of being rescued or set free (online dictionary). To me, deliverance is to be liberated, to be free, physically, and spiritually. This is a beautiful thing! The good news for Christ’s followers is that Jesus gave us the key and the power to this freedom through His death and His shed blood. What I have found out as a counselor and a coach is that sometimes the freedom that Jesus gave us on the cross is not entirely spread out in every area of a believer’s life. It is not that Jesus did not finish the work on the cross; it’s because we may still have some “shadows” that have been tagging along with us before we became born-again. Those shadows or garbage need to be cut off and uprooted using the power of the cross and the blood of Jesus. Your story may be different from mine or other believers I have come across. For you, it could be that the moment you gave your life to Christ, everything in your life became rosy, and every obstacle was utterly eradicated. Then, that is superb!
THE SPIRITUAL REALM CONTROLS THE PHYSICAL REALM
“The Lord your God is in your midst, A Warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with joy; He will be quiet in His love [making no mention of your past sins], He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy (Zeph.3:17) Amp.
The reality of life is that the spiritual realm controls the physical realm, that is reality. Those things we cannot see with our physical eyes control the physical world that we can see with our physical eyes. To make it simple, if there is a hole in one’s pocket in the spirit realm, it will be difficult to make ends meet in the physical, it doesn’t matter if we earn a lot of money in the physical world. That hole in the pocket in the spirit realm needs to be fixed before things can change in the physical realm.
If our lives have been tampered with or opened to spiritual vandalism (demonic interference) through our bloodline or by our actions (in the practice of occultism, Freemasonry/Lodge, evil association, witchcraft, sorcery, divination, evil blood covenants, satanism, idolatry, paganism, rebellion, rape, incest, polygamy, ouija board, reading or worshipping the stars/constellations, palm reading, tea-cup reading, and so on), then we have work to do. I call this house cleaning. Giving our lives to Christ Jesus is just the beginning of our journey to freedom, possessing the freedom and living in it to fulfill our destiny, not only for ourselves but also for our children, and lineage is the next step. God is interested in the fulfillment our destiny, purpose, and divine inheritance! (Jer. 29:11).
OVERCOMING THE LIES OF FAMILIAR SPIRITS
Our destiny is what God wrote about us before the beginning of the world in our book/destiny scrolls (Psalm 139:13-16, Jer. 1:5). Everything God created has a purpose. We all have a book, or you can call it our destiny scroll. God is building us as a house, and we are His house (Heb. 3:6). In the spirit realm if our windows, gates, or doors are broken, or the key to our lives, realms, regions, (to simplify it: I will call this the legacy/divine inheritance God gave us when He formed us) has been handed over to another person in the spirit realm through evil covenants, ungodly inheritance, and ungodly soul-ties, then some areas of our lives may not be fully liberated. Another area where our spiritual gates, windows, or doors may be broken is through curses or the damage done to the soul (our emotions, mind, and will). That can be in the form of trauma, hurt, or pain inflicted on us when we were young or at some point in our lives as teenagers or adults. This infliction of emotional distress or trauma can be in the form of sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, mental abuse, rejection, abortion, divorce, lack of love from parents, bullying, anger, hatred, bitterroot of judgment, gossip, and so on. The traumas can open the doors of our lives to familiar spirits and demonic attachments. Sometimes they speak lies to us about ourselves. (i.e. negative thoughts, the opposite of who we are in Jesus Christ). They place their seat in the subconscious, the gateway to our soul. We can get accustomed to those negative repetitive words, even after we’ve given our lives to Christ. The words of doubt, unbelief, or discouragement become real to us because we have heard them over and over again. To overcome the constant harassment of the mind-controlling spirit/demons, we must put on the whole armor of God (Eph. 6: 10-17). We must also renew the mind daily by using the weapon of our warfare the word of God, taking captive every thought to the obedience of Christ, and speaking only what the word of God says about us. (Romans 12:2, 2 Cor.10:5). Sometimes depending on the impact those words have had in our lives, we may need to seek help in deliverance. We may also be guided by the Holy Spirit to take the familiar spirits and the accuser of the brethren (Rev. 12:10) to the Courtroom of Heaven for God’s judgment.
GOD WANTS US TO BE FREE
The repercussions of the ungodly actions and decisions made either by our ancestors, parents or those with authority over us in our bloodlines before we were born or after we were born can still be playing a role in our lives. The enemy likes to cover up his actions, which is why we need to listen to the Holy Spirit anytime we feel or sense in our heart that something is not right, because it may not be right. The next step should be to take it to God in prayer. Nobody is perfect, but God is merciful and gracious to us, He wants us to be free so that He can have complete access to every area of our lives. The enemy can have a legal right in areas of our lives through our bloodline’s iniquity or through our mistakes and bad decisions. We need to take the legal right out of his hands by stepping into the Courtroom of Heaven to repent and apply the power of the blood of Jesus to our sins, transgressions, and iniquities. This step is biblical, an excellent example from the bible is in the book of 2 Samuel 21, David as the King of Israel prayed to God regarding the famine in the land, which had been going on for three years. David understood how the spirit realm operates. The answer God gave him was that his predecessor, King Saul broke the promise that Joshua made to the Gibeonites (Joshua 9). This wrong decision by Saul opened the door and window for a curse to come upon the land: the famine, which manifested during David’s reign as King.
THE POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS AND HIS BLOOD
You can say hmmm…, that is the Old Testament, and we are now living in the New Testament. Well, let me give you another example in the New Testament, the disciples asked Jesus in John 9:2 “Teacher, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” The disciples were aware of how the spirit realm worked, and they knew that decisions made by parents, or ancestors can affect the bloodline. However, God has given us the medication and remedy to fix this. That remedy is the name and the blood of Jesus(Rom.10:13). We confess, repent, and apply the power in the name of Jesus and His blood over the sin committed, iniquity, and the transgression, although we may not be the ones that committed the crime in our bloodlines. We become the “David”, for the sake of our bloodlines, and stand up to cut off the head of the “Goliath”. We then ask God to annul all evil covenants (Isa.28:15-18). We cancel all evil promises, oaths, and vows. We sever ungodly soul-ties and renounce all handwritten documents against us according to Col. 2:13-15. We cancel and break the power of the curse, then demolish the evil altar (Deut 7:5, Judg. 6). We ask for God’s judgment against the demons and their cohorts (Psalm 139: 6-9). Then by faith, we build a new altar through a prophetic act as God commanded Gideon to do in Judges 6. We make a declaration of God’s promises and blessings over our lives. Declaring the name of our Heavenly Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit over the new altar. The new altar built in the name of Jesus Christ now replaces the evil altar that was over our lives. Finally, we ask the Lord Jesus to close every evil portal and backdoor opened by the enemy over our lives. We call on God’s mighty Angels to stand guard over every door, gate, and window in our lives in the spirit realm. We finish the prayer by giving God the glory and praising Him for His victory in our lives.
