As we get close to the end of another year, it is crucial to evaluate our values in life. Doing this has helped guide me on whether I am on the right track to achieving my goals. It has also helped me to focus on things that are productive to my life’s purpose.

These words encapsulate some of my values in life: Faith, family, parenting, forgiveness, happiness, education, career, success, love, vision, legacy, freedom, honesty, health, and fitness. I will only elaborate on faith, forgiveness, and happiness here.

Faith: Faith is number one on my list. I believe that my life is more meaningful, and I experience fulfillment in my heart each day because of my faith in God. My relationship with Jesus Christ has helped me through the different stages, challenges and circumstances in my life. My faith in God has been my rock and my confidence. I know that even when I fall, my faith in God will always lift me up. I have hope because of my relationship with God and His son Jesus Christ.

Forgiveness: Second, on my list is Forgiveness. Nobody is perfect. As humans, we have flaws, and we cannot do without stepping on each other’s toes, either through our words or actions. I believe in the power of forgiveness because holding on to grudges, malice, and unforgiveness will always hinder me from living in divine health and being fully happy, peaceful, and productive.  Some misunderstand forgiveness to be foolishness, but I disagree with that. Although I cannot control the way others behave or the things they say, I can control the way I respond to their words and actions towards me. We must all learn to heal every day by giving our pain and hurt to God. Having said that, forgiveness does not mean I have to turn myself into a doormat of emotional abuse and overlook my boundaries.

Happiness: Happiness is third on my list. I do not like to compromise my joy, peace, and happiness. I cannot make others happy if I am unhappy. What is on the inside of me is what will impact others around me. When I am joyful, I can positively impact others. I can achieve great things and get things done successfully with focus and determination. Even when I do not have all the resources, my positive attitude can move me to achieve greater heights.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens”
Eccl. 3:1 NIV

Take some time to evaluate every area of your life. What is your passion in life? What is it that you love to do, which may seem hard for others? Who in your life motivates you and encourages you? Who is toxic for you in your relationships? What do you spend your time doing, that is a waste of your time and energy? Those are some of the questions you may need to ask yourself as you begin to evaluate your life and your values. Sometimes, in order to move forward and achieve our heart’s desires, we have to get rid of things/lifestyles/people/habits that are holding us back.
